NURSERY RHYMES FILM
The 'Nursery Rhymes' film was very simple.
At first, I felt so weird when watching this film, because it's 'Old MacDonald,'it smiled a bit but then, this unsettling feeling just creeped in, like something's not right. By the end, I felt genuinely surprised and a little bit disturbed in a way that got me thinking.
The familiar tune with those slightly off visuals and sounds just hooked me like my brain is going to wait but this isn’t how it is supposed to be.
Imagine someone took a really happy, innocent song and used it to soundtrack a series of increasingly unfortunate and kind of dark moments in this guy's day.
It wouldn't match it.
The message I took away was how things aren't always what they seem on the surface. That nursery rhyme is so sweet and simple, but the film shows this whole other layer of unexpected and kind of harsh reality underneath. It makes you think about how innocence can be shattered.
It shocked me about how dark they went with the story, considering the super cheerful starting point. I was not expecting car crashes and people getting hurt when I heard 'Old MacDonald'.
Nothing will tell you of backstory, but you can feel what they're going through. The actors did a good job of showing worry and distress in their face. That blonde-haired guy is kind of the center of it all, so you're definitely focused on him and what happens to him.
You see the concern on the faces of his friends and the family at the accident, and it feels real in that moment.
Visually, the way they shot it was wild. The whole thing was in one continuous shot. That's pretty impressive. And the colors being kind of washed out and gloomy really added to that uneasy feeling. There were moments, like seeing that overturned car that stuck in my head felt like I was right there, witnessing it all unfold.
The sound in that film was just brilliant. Taking that happy song and layering those unsettling animal noises, that low humming sound that made you feel tense, and then the sound of a kid crying... it all worked together perfectly to create this really specific mood.I definitely felt the music and the sound in this film, It's not a typical movie score, but it leaves a mark.
I liked it,because it wasn't what I expected at all, and I appreciate films that try something different and make you think. Its strengths are definitely its unique storytelling approach, the impressive way it was filmed, and how effectively the sound created the atmosphere. Maybe the lack of deep character development could be seen as a weakness for some, but for a short film like that, it worked.
It definitely made me feel something that was a mix of surprise, such is hard to forget.
I will tell people to watch but with a warning, 'Hey, check out this short film called "Nursery Rhymes." It's not what you think! It takes a familiar kids' song and turns it into something surprisingly dark and thought-provoking.'
Overall, that film sticks with you. The way they used that innocent nursery rhyme to tell such a different story is really memorable. It makes you think about how things can be flipped on their head.
